Religious traditions in Terradura, Ascea and hamlets: the dates during the year

Religious traditions are deeply felt in Cilento: they are often linked to the cult of the Madonna or Saints to whom churches, small chapels or sanctuaries are dedicated in the centers of the coast, in the hilly areas or even in the open countryside.

Suggestive rituals that have been repeated for centuries in an area as evocative as that of the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano and Alburni to love and discover at all times of the year.

The celebrations are also an opportunity for those who have emigrated to other areas of Italy or abroad to return and meet relatives and friends.

For residents and tourists, these celebrations are pleasant periods of discovery or rediscovery of traditions: often, in addition to the procession, folkloristic events and initiatives of all kinds are organized, also related to food and wine.

Here are the main religious rites celebrated every year in Terradura di Ascea, Ascea capital, Ascea Marina and in the other hamlets of the Cilento municipality.

Ascea Marina - Celebrations for the Madonna di Portosalvo - 27 August of each year

Terradura di Ascea - Celebrations in honor of San Michele Arcangelo - 29 September and 8 May of each year

The celebrations dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel are deeply felt by the inhabitants and by the original people of Terradura di Ascea, where there is also a church dedicated to the Archangel.

St. Michael the Archangel, Patron of Terradura together with Santa Sofia, is honored twice a year: on September 29, the day of the official liturgical feast and on May 8, which is the ancient date, in effect before the calendar reform.
